Is there a worse possible time to enter the world of card collecting then when the hottest possible pack pull is a Gregg Jeffries Future Stars card?Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.comBlogger35125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-53079922038839239772008-02-13T08:17:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:19.398-08:00First Bench Trade!<div><br /><div><br /><div>If you have not already done so, you simply must check out the site called “The Bench”. If you have any interest in trading, and would prefer to do so in a structured environment, this is the place for you. If you prefer not to have to register for a site, follow protocol, and be active on a message board, then it might not be the site for you. I actually prefer the organization and was impressed by their point system and trader ratings. The amount of members on-line was also impressive and I decided to jump right in and make a profile. While setting up my profile I was given the option to select players I collect as well as teams and sets. There was a message at the bottom saying that if you did not see your players on the players list a moderator would add them for you. Sure enough Cain and Lincecum were not on the list. I checked to see which moderator was on-line and sent an IM asking for the players to be added. No more then five minutes later I had a message saying they were added, and welcoming me to “The Bench”. Now that’s service.<br /><br />Once my profile was set up, I posted a message in the introduction thread on the board. Very quickly responses started pilling up. Two or three pages of “welcome” responses told me this was a very active trading community. Public and Private messages told me people had cards I needed.<br /><br />So I probably made a small trade<br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqGXs1YDCBKzdJ2ek5OI2d0ft816ZEkq3wSWNpEwJ6NooIuCPeuTuBSf3y6LDmcnp-UwdhccSy4-_j9veAwpfMFaZnczbK7uGdpcQg38uCuQtg9R3dFFXAAYck6MTYSHSmIPTfSIsS_0g/s1600-h/EarlAverill-2006FleerGreatsoftheGam.jpg"></a></p>to break in right? Then again I am giving up some really sweet cards. The Maris was the highlight of my Sweet Spot tin, and the Marino and Dawson are both numbered to 250. I have two of that Marino though, and my trade partner agreed to the white patch instead of the teal, so that I don't mind to much. This is my first McCovey card, let alone game used or patch. It is also my first Manning jersey, which is numbered to 100. The Bonds card adds to my PC.</p><p>All in all "The Bench" is a ton of fun, and I look forward to more trades and seeing you all there!</p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqGXs1YDCBKzdJ2ek5OI2d0ft816ZEkq3wSWNpEwJ6NooIuCPeuTuBSf3y6LDmcnp-UwdhccSy4-_j9veAwpfMFaZnczbK7uGdpcQg38uCuQtg9R3dFFXAAYck6MTYSHSmIPTfSIsS_0g/s1600-h/EarlAverill-2006FleerGreatsoftheGam.jpg"></a></div>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com31tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-34308486721432938292008-02-11T13:10:00.000-08:002008-02-11T13:30:45.973-08:00Uzi Madness!!!<div><a href="http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff312/fsarra12/Topps2008/KazuoUzuki-2008Topps-FS1Front.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff312/fsarra12/Topps2008/KazuoUzuki-2008Topps-FS1Front.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>Who is Kazuo Uzuki?<br /><br /><div>I guess I will be joining the ranks of those wondering just who the heck this guy is. I agree with those who feel this is simply an add for the Topps make your own card promotion. What I don’t understand is why the effort in the description to make it seem so real? Why the part about being cut from the WBC? Why the part about lasting impressions. If some proud father wants to make a card about his son hitting 61 homers during the little league season, fine, I get it. Do we need a blurb about him impressing an aging Hank Aaron with his plate discipline and knowledge of the strike zone? It is one thing to exaggerate to sell your product, it is another to lie and lie deceptively. If, in fact, this is a promo stunt, that is what I will be upset about. Not the part about a 16yo throwing 104mph heat. That part anyone can tell you is a lie. It will be the part that tries to make you believe the lie by adding something believable. That is the cruel part.<br /><br />However, if it turns out Uzi is real, that is ok too.</div><br /><br /><div></div><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff312/fsarra12/Topps2008/KazuoUzuki-2008Topps-FS1Back.jpg" border="0" /> <div></div></div></div>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-15140437676186580622008-02-10T21:08:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:19.607-08:00Topps 2008 Jumbos: Part 3Next Up: My favorite insert set so far this year!!! I have exactly 20 of these cards, and I believe it is a 20 card set for series 1, so with some really good luck you could complete the set with two Jumbos. I did not, but I should have the doubles I need to trade for and complete the set. They were obviously seeded at 1 per jumbo pack.<br /><br />The cards themselves feature both young and star players on classic baseball card designs from the past. Yeah not exactly ground breaking with all the heritage sets that are out there, and really there are not any twists. There are no blurbs on the back talking about the historic cards, and some of the cards can't even say what the emulate due to copy write rules. Most just say what set they represent and then have a standard blurb about the player. The major difference from the heritage sets out there are some of the off the wall designs these cards chose to honor. The cards look great, even the ugly ones because they did it on purpose. They should have talked about the card sets instead of the players though.<br /><br />TCH1 - Need<br />TCH2 - Need<br />TCH3 - Daisuke Matsuzaka T-206<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTvIBAn0D7MFIrKIbOf3Xg8-X5kIXMvWoY4kp4vIG4y-NouZ683hju0tk7iTe4mTmpm0TTUIF-ww5Jn5EOJczx8N5S7RoZ8F3R05fnrYEUDtNAg7Qrfnw2JbpOy970i2VXTh4G5XyB5dA/s1600-h/TCH3+Daisuke+Matsuzaka+T206.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; I will do break downs of both products, but I will start with the Topps. The packs are busted, and the boxes are sorted, but I can still give you a good idea of what to expect out of Topps 2008.<br /><br />Regular boxes of Topps had no guarantees of any hits, and being an unapologetic relic and autograph lover, I opted for the Jumbos for $30 more then the $55 price tag for the standard box. So you are not quite paying double, but you are supposedly guaranteed of pulling two hits from the box, and about 1 1/2 times as many cards. I have also found that I usually pull better inserts from Jumbos, which I have heard rumors about around hobby shops, so what the heck. True to their word Topps provided at least the guaranteed number of hits from the boxes. In fact there was a bonus auto, so there were in fact 5 hits from the two boxes. More on those later.<br /><br />For the first time I can remember though, the true stars of these boxes were the insert sets instead of the relics and autos. What a HUGE step up from Generation Now and the horrible mirror sets in the past. Some of the mirrors are still there, but Topps definitely did well with the new sets and designs and with the Hobby picking up steam each year, this could be a banner year for the Topps product. Topps has inspired me this year to go for a master set, so lets take a look at some of the insert sets, and what I still need to complete them.<br /><br />50th Anniversary Topps All-Star Rookie Team<br />AR1 - Need<br />AR2 - Need<br />AR3 - Need<br />AR4 - Melky Cabrera<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1vlFdITc6VK7V-RvoEDVeYtnIYHfvlAhqU10oucXYBVD8T_f0lwqxFxL3mcodzWfZ34Iv5SQzUaW78V_O13ecGygF8OJfWKxcAW9tY70RC5AmPOUBkIkYqgmIEkbl3oZfoeRD7VPRbPU/s1600-h/AR4+Melky+Cabrera+2008+Topps.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; That works out to one in each of the 10 jumbo packs per box. With 35 cards still to go, this will not be the easiest set to complete. Value wise I doubt it would be hard to purchase, but needing to purchase at least 4 jumbos and having some incredibly good luck, you better be a member of a good trade site like The Bench if you want to complete it. Up next we will look at the awesome Trading Card History set, but for now I need a break, lol.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-72694894612017902402008-02-08T21:09:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:28.215-08:00Mickey Mantle 2008 Topps NO NAME NO FOIL ERROR 1/1?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge_EQjCL9i0AwNt4VubN-ASLQ3ogX3IhJ3JXZ_ShoSPeaEO5I9EzsIcebjZ7gAARRaYsSc07ri7hXRg9ItqePJ4oAfzCf8OBsAq0rmklHqSmO4oFjJQv97mnMqJnGSd9Ap6hZDz52gjj4/s1600-h/Mickey+Mantle+-+2008+Topps+Series+1-+NO+NAME.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge_EQjCL9i0AwNt4VubN-ASLQ3ogX3IhJ3JXZ_ShoSPeaEO5I9EzsIcebjZ7gAARRaYsSc07ri7hXRg9ItqePJ4oAfzCf8OBsAq0rmklHqSmO4oFjJQv97mnMqJnGSd9Ap6hZDz52gjj4/s400/Mickey+Mantle+-+2008+Topps+Series+1-+NO+NAME.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164844035713585554" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Has anyone else seen this yet. Is this another error chase card? Or just another screw up by Topps. I will say I have searched high and low and can't find any mention of anything like it on any message boards, blogs, or news sites. But I can put up my most recent .99 cent e-bay victory. I also have a bid in for the team set for .99 cents, which I hope to take with me to Spring Training and get each card signed. Today I have been working on listing my significant Football cards (those of the game used, autographed, insert, or rookie kind) and assigning the Beckett book value to each (to the best of my abilities) for trade purposes. I have not posted much about Football cards here up to this point, but I am definitely just as big a Football fan, as I am a Baseball Fan. What follows is a listing broken down by set, the file names all pertain to digital files I have stored as jpgs.<br /><br />The majority of my collection is available for viewing at...<br /><br /><a href="http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff312/fsarra12/Autos%20Gamers/">http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff312/fsarra12/Autos%20Gamers/</a><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><strong><span style="color:#ff0000;">Bowman Sterling Football<br /></span></strong>Aaron Ross - Ok so mainly I just got suckered into picking up a couple close-out boxes from my local shop, but what the heck, 2006 can still be exciting right?<br /><br />On tap we have 1 box of 2007 SP Legendary Cuts (yes I am still chasing my first cut auto despite my good fortune with the Ruth card) and 2 boxes of Fleer Greats of the Game (Damn you Ken Burns you have made me too nostalgic). Being a newly reborn collector I have missed out on any previous issues containing retired jerseys. In fact my first jersey card period was out of this year’s Allen & Ginter, so any chance I have to build my collection is welcome. This is what attracted me to the Greats of the Game product (besides the close out price) as they offer 4 hits per box on average. The actual claim is 2 autos and 2 game used per box, which I proved wrong but that is for later.<br /><br />At a higher price point, but still much cheaper then the $110 I was paying for them earlier in the year, is the SP Legendary Cuts. For the most part every single one of these boxes I have gotten have been a complete bust, save for the miraculous pulling of the Ruth film card. I can see why the price has dropped given the amount of big hits already pulled from the product. Still, I was willing to try my hand at the elusive cut signature cards.<br /><br />First up; the 2007 Legendary Cuts. There are supposed to be Two hits per box, but they can be most anything, and I have pulled three a couple times now.<br /><br />Common Cards: This small set has been deceptively difficult to complete. I still think I am a few cards short of the set as I still can’t remember pulling Josh Gibson.<br /><br />But…here is Satchel. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163546925555708834" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdzZafhHD12nC2oeOcF7u8oERTmWd-wX_hxy-oBY9ExEemunRgIDRwT0PAFKp1pwnH8ygiXMxG7cpDRHn-e2mO_BogG0mAGJpQMJ0QjO7U-VkptQZ50y8aSa93uVjG38nBjbMcWad_B1o/s200/SatchelPaige-2007UDSPLegendaryCuts-.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163546796706689938" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix1k3uJN-HIjg6c00VEPJp_u5AMg42xhHtXMfRXuI6aPOD4tLfbq2MU1lpCRdPpvVNl7OEu4SMVo6LPOQD5HtuP9kUt16Q5XIaAOuuiY1aG18q94HiyLhH0Pez4j6nTIdfRYnk4lgUo74/s200/CyYoung-2007UDSPLegendaryCuts-.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163551289242482034" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjggFVDH0yQzPE79Jn_04QalAbxwmRiJ8_LTPZt-FJgczss9aKp3_ToVmpcDaWC8H6YjkIoZpwUGowRad3gLGeBjRAWQ1HzGr-IG_DJDpiiIGkrazenGTg0T-pMJWrEsLgMee-2g6TuuJw/s200/WillieMcCovey-2007UDSPLegendaryCuts.jpg" border="0" /><br />The basic card design is good. The quality control has been pretty solid throughout as well. I can’t remember really damaged or off cut cards in any of my boxes. The red background works better on the black and white cards then the color pictures though. I think all the cards end up looking much too similar in that too much of the cards are devoted to design rather then player. If it were not for the big hits, the looks of these cards would not have drawn me to this product.<br /><br />Hits: Well I have a knack for pulling Dwight Evans cards apparently. If I was looking to build up my collection of decent Red Sox players, I have done very well recently. I would be thrilled if some of these could end up being Giants, but they don’t make many sets.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163547492491391922" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPt_OJJy2o8VlJqe9-wmup42ncyWvVGxV5haVgs0ju3FBc9DuieSIN88OHaBLeYHbglmmNdXFlgHZYTHBaBI5TC_F6QXQTg9jc1bJokV9T63MBqnaB3yRwiNqRKagYTU5p-6NR9eiikpo/s200/DwightEvans-2007UDSPLegendaryCuts-S.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163547599865574338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDVsHAioA33BIDkdN8RLfAovmVPlwlOH3pIWMJDK7SalPKkWs2kfczqDzduciXExG1h2oya_E9WiLdIVKo6tUHcaLH_7TVMDfx6eH_yXxBAjUJA72mhyphenhyphenc4ky8uKhfRru8brjb8uutyobk/s200/PaulMolitor-2007UDSPLegendaryCuts-L.jpg" border="0" /><br />Oh look, I guess I am a Paul Molitor pulling fool as well! This is my first autograph out of this product, and it is a HoFer numbered to 100, so this can’t be too bad right? It looks like another rough break overall though. Lets hope the Greats of the Game Turn out better.<br />With two boxes of Greats of the Game we should be looking at 8 different hits to add to my collection. That’s a pretty big draw when you are building up from scratch. Ultimately I want to be able to look at my collection and see a reflection of myself as a sports fan. Not to many other products out there are going to give you four chances a box at history, for a reduced price tag of about $70. So with that said, I have my expectations tempered, and my hopes high.<br /><br />Commons: These are nice looking cards. Being Fleer I expect a somewhat cheaper looking product, and they are. They remind me of a Star set of some sort from the 80’s but with the pictures of old ball players it contrasts less then a more modern looking card would. The real highlights to me are the backs which provide nice blurbs about the players and complete careers statistics. They also put the Baseball Hall of Fame logo on each member’s card. This is a handy tool when looking back at some much older players, and also great when looking at the cards with someone new to the history of Baseball. For me this is my Wife who was excited to sort through the cards and separate out the HoFers to see how many we got in comparison to non-members. This same quality would go over well with children who would be able to compare the stats of the members to the non-members. Two thumbs way up from us on this feature, it made the break much more fun. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163548587708052546" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkvXJbdLZCJBAh_Cm61FLbrRWre60Cz0cFN-U5ttxocZRNOqAcG4ZG5g6sAv9iaCBsA9BwQhxUBWZdXLWr0JR7zuHtEdRen9t7kpOjxV_-ke4tDgrPetYZab_Mi_F-sc1yZ-Jrr8gaMoA/s200/ErnieBanks-2006FleerGreatsoftheG-1.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163548669312431186" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi217FwJR3S6PmR7C5BFnmXKOLWPMxoEIZpyZQjH3-crA1hJsoqmIbDZmJlyRax885szQXXcrCYimvnT3XKGYeyXjXZWRk5IIc6vO348vIwrCMw0AqpA-ymh-R7RFgMYrqHrcqUjG5sjtY/s200/ErnieBanks-2006FleerGreatsoftheGame.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163550159666083026" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI1LZe5QYgh_ONHgafiN0w5vAX2NJHbSPQwkg4sgjQCnRrrGEON70HE9ucbwPKD23ATj6kuryRGrNuPbwJm7OQsCq0yH3TFdHs0TKz946X1C1vWepRENHu9WGSPhB3QmnTFHUBeY_I-WE/s200/StanMusial-2006FleerGreatsoftheGame.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163551194753201506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvZKaxdrzQ2Y2eut9Ftdfk3TIVdyuj0xxq6nnUc2HeRhR0UzYYtWylNHVY7VMBY1f-xTf-0fi526f17dRsHqX1WjOQVSItHmU-Ik3BzZCqRmKNBy4-iAYC9iUjBbYE4O9cmiKPKduIDoI/s200/WillieMcCovey-2006FleerGreatsoftheG.jpg" border="0" /><br />Inserts: Bring on the Color! I am a conservative person. I don’t like things that are loud or obnoxious or cheesy. But not everything needs to be BLACK. There are way to many black bordered cards out there, and far too much use of black within card designs. Baseball Jerseys have color, the game has color, life has color. I loved these inserts. They really lit up the packs, and overall look great. The backs look great as well.<br /><br />Decade Greats<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163550992889738562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqf36zOd7Clqh3YcdTnHKi9cx2q8FxSXAH8DBNlCwFJ1Kwu7vkfQx7YClLCbRYmqgfC1WbdjAFvjdEGZ_YwMkPDYsARnQjhtBXZG_VbHO9MK9p7Aq6rwGKNsefY8cIVIjmo-EuJHMBnmc/s200/TomSeaver-2006FleerGreatsoftheGa-1.jpg" border="0" /><br />Nickname Greats<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163549120283997330" style="DISPLAY: block; I’ll take it. Three Autos of decent players, I guess I will take it. Nolan Ryan Jersey card? Hell Yeah! Nice add to the collection. Big Red Machine, Donnie Baseball, Bill Madlock? Check, check, check. Glad to have you boys welcome to the collection. Dodger Cards? I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. As you can see, I did not get 4 autos, but I did get 5 gamers, giving me a grand total of 9 hits so I won’t complain.<br /><br />Overall, three pretty tough breaks. Nolan highlights the group, but overall pretty rough. These are names I grew up with though, so as for making my collection a better reflection of myself? Mission Accomplished. Now somebody take these Dodger Cards from me before I puke.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-48908665398305866442008-02-02T09:32:00.001-08:002008-12-09T10:01:39.570-08:00Box Break: 2007 Sweet Spot ClassicOr should I say pack break? Actually I really like the spot in the market that these cards fall. Essentially you are buying a pretty average box, giving up your commons, and getting your 5 box hits in one pack. While ripping packs is fun, not having to store away hundreds of cards each time I open a box is starting to appeal to me. Instead you know you will be loading a few cards into your good box and moving on. Ok, lets get to the break down.<br /><br />Sweet Spot Classics is not a new release, instead I am going back in time to pick things up I either missed, or are going down in price after a hot release.<br /><br />My local hobby shop only had the one tin he ordered for me, so I didn't have a choice of player, but Cal Ripken Jr. will work.<br /><br />The attractive tin advertises that there will be 5 cards in the pack. Two will be numbered commons to 575. Two will be Classic Memorabilia cards, and one will be a Sweet Spot Signature Card numbered to 175 or less, on average.<br /><br />My Wife did the pack opening since I get to keep the cards.<br /><br />Card 1:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMYS3Se4RAu8LoL_VLJFjKAnpP31dsxQ4ymJ1bA-4lOmF3xPsWlYSOmG7unQpC2BJ6TLC8VJgHDy0tcNxgar5dNeZaMfAxU3Zt3CEPQ_xB4SmlX0wy_lgRM_VBlpcQkEE9vPNvLIUWv7Q/s1600-h/Shawon+Dunston+-+2007+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+385-575.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMYS3Se4RAu8LoL_VLJFjKAnpP31dsxQ4ymJ1bA-4lOmF3xPsWlYSOmG7unQpC2BJ6TLC8VJgHDy0tcNxgar5dNeZaMfAxU3Zt3CEPQ_xB4SmlX0wy_lgRM_VBlpcQkEE9vPNvLIUWv7Q/s200/Shawon+Dunston+-+2007+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+385-575.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162439249195103042" border="0" /></a>Growing up and collecting when I did, Shawon Dunston was a popular name. I used to watch highlights all I could to see this guy make throws to first, and he was the first player I could ever remember watching just to see play Defense. In his later years he helped the Giants to the World Series, and made a spectacular play gunning a man down at the plate from Center Field, which prompted me to scream at my TV, "YOU DON'T RUN ON SHAWON DUNSTON!!". Still a vivid memory. As is the memory of him introducing Barry Bonds to the crowd after Barry hit 71 and 72 to break the HR record. I was at that game.<br /><br />Card 2:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjmsy6-4JBb84sgDF4C0cXzAA_jTXS_yIA8seCuN2s3KqEs0QmM_5rZ91rZdgCjt4bpDlfvJNhYGQWK6HHutgVy7RD70sUUFl8MQNv_GelO2PAo2U1ldZAAMBPSEpVkKl-N3L_-LK34LM/s1600-h/Elroy+Face+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+347-575.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjmsy6-4JBb84sgDF4C0cXzAA_jTXS_yIA8seCuN2s3KqEs0QmM_5rZ91rZdgCjt4bpDlfvJNhYGQWK6HHutgVy7RD70sUUFl8MQNv_GelO2PAo2U1ldZAAMBPSEpVkKl-N3L_-LK34LM/s200/Elroy+Face+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+347-575.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162440499030586194" border="0" /></a>OK, I admit, I have never heard of Elroy Face before. According to his card he was a small man, 5'8" 155 lbs, and a pitcher, so I guess that makes him the OG Lincecum or Oswalt. Also According to his card he set the Major League record for win percentage for a season at 18-1. Not bad for a guy who finished his career 104-95.<br /><br />Card 3:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiynpnrsERhInzOsuR91Lr2YlC3k9Wph1UVjB7uTAZLqYbL-jgwzeeJAMVgmv_h6GXwojm7sXANu7xMuoOC99gRUuw45ZjxdSvkbfJ5GkJJpRTRV35k-zu9zok2UsZOgzdq-L_F7hwc-ZE/s1600-h/Paul+Molitor+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Classic+Memorabilia+Prime+Patch+-+Jersey+-+08-55.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiynpnrsERhInzOsuR91Lr2YlC3k9Wph1UVjB7uTAZLqYbL-jgwzeeJAMVgmv_h6GXwojm7sXANu7xMuoOC99gRUuw45ZjxdSvkbfJ5GkJJpRTRV35k-zu9zok2UsZOgzdq-L_F7hwc-ZE/s200/Paul+Molitor+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Classic+Memorabilia+Prime+Patch+-+Jersey+-+08-55.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162441774635873122" border="0" /></a><br />Now that is a sweet patch card. I never get the three color kind, and this one is nice #/55. I know there are some big Brewer fans out there blogging, so it always is fun to pull a card you know other people will just love. Molitor was an incredible hitter. He just seemed to hit .300 in his sleep.<br /><br />Card 4:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwxBY7LNTgz5a8PeeGDiGHiR9t3usBPCLD_lzrQlLp4sImvzYMzLsnqL4jrCF-CTKmqD6irw3enKBNiMEEI4TlFFyjjSPzvFgUwS6gNBeEGMf-cUxoHjkuKZAab6qjiw_WsAec5kGBOEA/s1600-h/Roger+Maris+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Classic+Memorabilia+-+Jersey.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwxBY7LNTgz5a8PeeGDiGHiR9t3usBPCLD_lzrQlLp4sImvzYMzLsnqL4jrCF-CTKmqD6irw3enKBNiMEEI4TlFFyjjSPzvFgUwS6gNBeEGMf-cUxoHjkuKZAab6qjiw_WsAec5kGBOEA/s200/Roger+Maris+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Classic+Memorabilia+-+Jersey.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162442667989070706" border="0" /></a>This card got me excited. I very awesome piece of history here. I love the history of the game. I think it is one of the reasons Baseball is so very special. It has grown and survived just as America has grown and survived. Roger Maris also found a way to survive. The chasing of a legend, and not being the guy everyone wanted to do the chasing took a toll on Maris as a man. But to his credit Maris took his toll on opposing pitching instead of those who treated him with scorn. I love this card.<br /><br />Card 5:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBh76bTK-WqNGVk3HXvUmt1eJpJw-K56Eqp_8OdjmoCrLmYrLysHrdDY7DlTcuuxlizBS7hiQoqErr1iZtavW5QsznO9B5d4XyJVNqJ5jQ0eH3bX_bjXcGWfsUeOL-P-lKK7nrJqh7jfY/s1600-h/Fred+Lynn+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Legendary+Autograph+-+Auto+-+Bat+-+69-75.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBh76bTK-WqNGVk3HXvUmt1eJpJw-K56Eqp_8OdjmoCrLmYrLysHrdDY7DlTcuuxlizBS7hiQoqErr1iZtavW5QsznO9B5d4XyJVNqJ5jQ0eH3bX_bjXcGWfsUeOL-P-lKK7nrJqh7jfY/s200/Fred+Lynn+-+2007+UD+Sweet+Spot+Classic+-+Legendary+Autograph+-+Auto+-+Bat+-+69-75.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162444059558474626" border="0" /></a>OK, so my jersey cards where my big hits. Still, it's a big hunk of wood, it's autographed, and it's a Red Sox. Somebody out there must want to trade for it.<br /><br />Overall, I really like the product. A dream pull would have been the Christy Mathewson jersey card, but the Maris would have been very high on my list. The Moliter patch is awesome as well. I would certainly buy this product again, for about $100 a pack.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-57982790123163980772008-01-31T08:49:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:40.411-08:00Spring Training 2008It's official, I am on my way to Spring Training. A life long dream will be fulfilled as my Wife and I will venture down to Arizona in March to watch the Giants begin life after Barry. I would never consider going to a pre-season football or basketball game (much less traveling to do so) but something about Spring Training Baseball is special. I will head down there and see if I can figure out what it is.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxhGY-TBvJAcs5iqlc4u1AW7Kvrn51J6Wo4SnWPYeqIwPbgy3Agr_LIRh_RdAGSkJ0K19__2CM0Uq172UYt2BEhGJ9cdCcEz8MorbgzkEVPQQzbeINmJCQGRIuLy737f00lZ5ner-rMjw/s1600-h/Overview.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161686337133146882" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxhGY-TBvJAcs5iqlc4u1AW7Kvrn51J6Wo4SnWPYeqIwPbgy3Agr_LIRh_RdAGSkJ0K19__2CM0Uq172UYt2BEhGJ9cdCcEz8MorbgzkEVPQQzbeINmJCQGRIuLy737f00lZ5ner-rMjw/s200/Overview.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaAy8rxPLgt5ltGLbScGIg_ZQgHbVnILGOhhETA7X9Qmf9UIGF36PtPrX7LeZujfIaIOYXVP0-o2EEJFKGtFM7J8N7Zqxv1bOQ1NWW13mbwOk5TZLAt0k5FKtwYZk7ZDR0GsZMwxLJw0I/s1600-h/our_resort_img.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161686444507329298" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaAy8rxPLgt5ltGLbScGIg_ZQgHbVnILGOhhETA7X9Qmf9UIGF36PtPrX7LeZujfIaIOYXVP0-o2EEJFKGtFM7J8N7Zqxv1bOQ1NWW13mbwOk5TZLAt0k5FKtwYZk7ZDR0GsZMwxLJw0I/s200/our_resort_img.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxFzAnzzcMHk8GeOM1ZcZVjgITfigPDX9-3PSDIUP3BEf_v_yXAFY5I0M3d7sA90-PPtsoN5Oi4skMN6ktzLggG0ZhK-JPm_4l2MtbHzTIp_IE9UkR0BGE6ZqPLny-5SQtoHj141P_oP0/s1600-h/photo_img_3_1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161686547586544418" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxFzAnzzcMHk8GeOM1ZcZVjgITfigPDX9-3PSDIUP3BEf_v_yXAFY5I0M3d7sA90-PPtsoN5Oi4skMN6ktzLggG0ZhK-JPm_4l2MtbHzTIp_IE9UkR0BGE6ZqPLny-5SQtoHj141P_oP0/s200/photo_img_3_1.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-2zeE_j124OYJkAR7ejVojNucarxjc-Q8lJwyGSdQW_hU21cI-qSkwEqnjV4uqroBxlgiEh089oCbANZKUJa7EEEJiALFtp0rdKq5_61q7bBGF81J4g0Is0-111TGjlBvGsZc4Nimeqg/s1600-h/photo_img_5_1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161686607716086578" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-2zeE_j124OYJkAR7ejVojNucarxjc-Q8lJwyGSdQW_hU21cI-qSkwEqnjV4uqroBxlgiEh089oCbANZKUJa7EEEJiALFtp0rdKq5_61q7bBGF81J4g0Is0-111TGjlBvGsZc4Nimeqg/s200/photo_img_5_1.jpg" border="0" /></a>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-18924349676369381442008-01-29T14:18:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:40.836-08:00Happy E-Bay Day, Again!<div><br /><br /><div>Well as the last of my old stuff I was selling on E-Bay closed, a flurry of purchases allowed me to do some shopping. There seems to be some sentiment that every Tom, Dick, or Harry should not be waxing poetic about wax. The fact is the new card blogs popping up are a reflection of the growth of the industry. As people flood to the hobby, they flood to the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Internet</span> as well. For the established guard of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">bloggers</span>, it seems the newcomers are stepping on toes. What was once a cornered market has become an ever expanding collection of new thoughts and ideas. I had no idea when I started this blog that I was out of line for linking to <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">existing</span> blogs, or asking them to link to mine. I figured other blog owners would be happy to have readers and happy to promote other peoples blogs who shared similar interests. I know now that I should have known my place. Apparently you are supposed to write your blog for years before ever hoping to have anyone read it. I figured what was the point of writing if no body knew about it. I saw that my place in the card collecting world differed slightly from the other blogs I was reading. It appeared I was willing to dive into collecting again, where as others <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">preferred</span> to limit or specialize their efforts. I wanted to be a voice for those that bought into the hype, and dropped the big money on a box or two. That doesn't mean I don't love the posts about the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">truly</span> bad wax out there, I do, I get a huge kick out of them. I just thought there might be others like me that were willing to trust again. Ready to splurge again. Ready to give it another try now that life had settled down, and adulthood had set in. To those of you who have stopped in to check out my thoughts, Thank You. To those of you who have taken the time to comment, THANK YOU. I realize most (if not all) of my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">commenters</span> have their own blogs. That means blog writers are reading other blog writers. To me, that makes us friends. People who listen to each other and share ideas. I am not interested in talking at you, I want to talk too you. If for any reason I have missed your link e-mail, or any other request you might have sent, send it again. I will be glad to add your link.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>I may be a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">NKOTB</span>, but I came in throwing heat, and I won't stop till I become an <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">HOFer</span>.</div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160664422679507602" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYJns2UYTz9kpkBAaMHfI1foB7D43DcLsp9YCXJrLnty7vAIN3Ol5L4YbbzuJvSVsiPntaI34IqJ7uFgne4r5uqKM_xZlTykDgO-HAbmi8d6XMt2_F0Kh0rpacKH3NU0zbp9F5pA4xLtw/s320/Tim+Lincecum+-+2007+Bowman+Chrome+Draft+Baseball+-+Rookie.JPG" border="0" /></div>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-89905912134235087292008-01-27T00:50:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:45.467-08:00There are good days, and then there are Damn Good DaysMy Wife says I am the luckiest person she has ever known. In fact she thinks if her terrible luck didn't rub off on me, I would be even luckier. To be honest, I can't really argue with her. I have never really hit that big "HOLY CRAP" pull. However, on a consistent basis I do defy the odds and prove to be pretty damn lucky. Today is one of those days.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg44xNlCPQKanx7EZaHzUlImO8X5Myw8spjTOVRzZbzB5vudhf66T58OIfXdacZNAoqAAPXwmHzeGC2kS2cgq0V00Eh2gquwUOJl7u_jb9z3Q4Bf5hcbQp1Wb514-qR_SsIgAzMcwvUW7Y/s1600-h/Babe+Ruth+-+2007+SP+Legendary+Cuts+-+Reel+History+1+of+1.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg44xNlCPQKanx7EZaHzUlImO8X5Myw8spjTOVRzZbzB5vudhf66T58OIfXdacZNAoqAAPXwmHzeGC2kS2cgq0V00Eh2gquwUOJl7u_jb9z3Q4Bf5hcbQp1Wb514-qR_SsIgAzMcwvUW7Y/s320/Babe+Ruth+-+2007+SP+Legendary+Cuts+-+Reel+History+1+of+1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160077193275961970" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Y006tyHXzUPOPVnj2G9X0Va1a8m0UK-TRQJvVW2N6qi_0WIgfblCz2i5hyPKg9anRYFBhzbwygyhxKZYTl4_hm-rAMffa7hTLgJORYAkIo3aQ8TZnxuyTn918xhMo0NFb_U4n6Ps2-4/s1600-h/Babe+Ruth+-+2007+SP+Legendary+Cuts+-+Reel+History+1+of+1+-+back.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Y006tyHXzUPOPVnj2G9X0Va1a8m0UK-TRQJvVW2N6qi_0WIgfblCz2i5hyPKg9anRYFBhzbwygyhxKZYTl4_hm-rAMffa7hTLgJORYAkIo3aQ8TZnxuyTn918xhMo0NFb_U4n6Ps2-4/s320/Babe+Ruth+-+2007+SP+Legendary+Cuts+-+Reel+History+1+of+1+-+back.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160077335009882754" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I wish the scanner did a better job of picking up the film reel. The image is of Ruth still in the batters box with bat in hand as he follows through on his swing and looks up to the Right Field bleachers, no doubt tracking one of his 714 Home Runs. Also somewhat hidden from the scanner in the bottom right hand corner of the front of the card is the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">UD</span> 1 of 1 logo. Now this is by no means the only Reel History Babe Ruth card out there, but each of us lucky bastards at least has a different piece of said history to drool over. Beats the hell out of those mirror sets with 700 cards with the same photo. I have now bought three boxes of this product this year, and have yet to net an autograph, but I will take this awesome relic of nearly 100 year old footage any time. As those of you who watched the Burns documentary might remember it wasn't until later in Ruth's career that the Yanks added numbers to the backs of their uniforms to match their spots in the batting order. Ruth got his number 3 with Gehrig wearing number 4. This footage predates that occurrence since there is no number on his jersey putting this film from the early 1920's. Pretty sweet, and a great idea from Upper Deck.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-6300848255335806592008-01-24T12:07:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:46.696-08:00Stroke of GeniusWell, I haven't posted up any .99 cent <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">bargains</span> in a while, but I doubt anyone missed them much. I do like to post the very cool cards that can be had out there though, for less then an average pack would cost you. I guess I just feel that, in the overpriced world of the hobby, the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" concept can be well applied in building collections that make us happy. When considering that certain cards are only inserted at a rate of 1,2, or 3 packs per box, the chance of snapping these cards up for less then the random pack appeals to me when the subject of the card somehow <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">enhances</span> my overall collection. It can take the form of a player I like, a local team, a particular card design, anything that makes me feel that my collection is a better reflection of myself. So with that being said (and the hope that I might encourage others to look through "another man's trash") here are a few recent .99 cent finds, and one big, Giant (pun intended) splurge.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsb9BdbgBF5Bw_uxIMCmJpbTrt9d25hsYNWfw_RF4Ygm4GYL0D9UrIePI37kT-AW2b8nSM42zlo1zx4x4kzy8yMZ-8iJcDovrucqQIxF9pVgxaXHuWOLOpo6k_eoLXexbiXlGBl8iPlU/s1600-h/Huston+Street+-+2007+UD+Materpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5159141908312683058" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsb9BdbgBF5Bw_uxIMCmJpbTrt9d25hsYNWfw_RF4Ygm4GYL0D9UrIePI37kT-AW2b8nSM42zlo1zx4x4kzy8yMZ-8iJcDovrucqQIxF9pVgxaXHuWOLOpo6k_eoLXexbiXlGBl8iPlU/s320/Huston+Street+-+2007+UD+Materpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPD9HmF0MFVuxa04kR5aNmaOx2TZkPuCvtD_qejXuQZ0KOiu2dsEb4sAJpsqdhvcnrm3TIuXdSJGwvM4e_m1oIeiIivGJl4tCojb_JF6cMzf-2isdSm8A0H_BofLTAuEiX4_gqsrvaLrY/s1600-h/Rich+Harden+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5159142213255361090" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPD9HmF0MFVuxa04kR5aNmaOx2TZkPuCvtD_qejXuQZ0KOiu2dsEb4sAJpsqdhvcnrm3TIuXdSJGwvM4e_m1oIeiIivGJl4tCojb_JF6cMzf-2isdSm8A0H_BofLTAuEiX4_gqsrvaLrY/s320/Rich+Harden+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijAByGGBu7mEnwc9dJLE8WkSadoR1fMhRAnG3ZMYZEr_IqMR_Mzzt3v5_YuDMxaPLLkrwdZY451-F9aKOyCIB7hDnLFzfYp5iYvKzJFskBjDgU3Ae5Mk03a6GOTunDBUI3ZjRbZON6cDg/s1600-h/1dd3_1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5159142294859739730" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijAByGGBu7mEnwc9dJLE8WkSadoR1fMhRAnG3ZMYZEr_IqMR_Mzzt3v5_YuDMxaPLLkrwdZY451-F9aKOyCIB7hDnLFzfYp5iYvKzJFskBjDgU3Ae5Mk03a6GOTunDBUI3ZjRbZON6cDg/s320/1dd3_1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Street and Harden play ball about an hour from here so there is a local feel, and some eye candy at shows and what not. Most of all I love the card design and it was a easy couple pick ups for cheap with combined shipping. I would have to imagine when this guy pulled these he was disappointed. That is most likely why he listed them on e-bay for .99 cents. To be quite honest I would have been disappointed too, but I didn't drop the hundred on the box, I dropped the $5 to purchase both items and get them shipped. That is less then my local store packs them out for. Especially since he didn't pack out this product. As for Vlad. He is a bad ass. Why would I not want that card? I think he has taken a bad rap over the last couple years. He has progressed well as a QB who keeps his team in the game. He may never put up the prolific numbers like Peyton, but he can no doubt lead a team to victory. When all is said and done I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with a couple rings, just not this year.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-58179201753090184012008-01-19T21:23:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:51.602-08:00Masterpiece!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWtsRQuV5nM9uODj0ALbsyx7DwU6Jnl12ViXO7IL7Wje_lS8oObm95BzU95lKTEUFv8lN9XrNYha7c1CBO191C701CCpHtPk880tb11jOMZKTtsrOQP3eKqJcU_VXD9mVm3VUf_0r-QBw/s1600-h/Hunter+Pence+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Stroke+of+Genius+-+Auto+-+Rookie.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWtsRQuV5nM9uODj0ALbsyx7DwU6Jnl12ViXO7IL7Wje_lS8oObm95BzU95lKTEUFv8lN9XrNYha7c1CBO191C701CCpHtPk880tb11jOMZKTtsrOQP3eKqJcU_VXD9mVm3VUf_0r-QBw/s320/Hunter+Pence+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Stroke+of+Genius+-+Auto+-+Rookie.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157428610985985378" border="0" /></a>Well... I am late to board this train, but I am glad I decided to get on eventually. 2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces was a release that I allowed to slip by after busting two boxes of SP Legendary Cuts which yielded nada, zip, nothing. At that point another historic UD release was not high on my list. Then after an exceptionally weak box of SP Authentic, I was wondering why I broke my habit and bought UD at all, but never being one to learn from my mistake I took on more gamble. For my effort I got 2, not one but two, Carlos Lee Captured on Canvas cards in the same Masterpieces box. I was pretty pissed at that point, but as I sat putting all these cards in sleeves, I noticed something. I really like these cards. They are nice! They look good, feel good, and despite the two Lee's I had to admit it was the best looking jersey card I had seen all year. The on card autos are a nice touch too. So I figured, what the hell, my local shop had another box on the shelf. It couldn't have two more Lee's in it right?<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVd6zH2M0YAxKFmDbcaVOLpGEH1cnaIFLDFxwjKCUEd20EWLb7mfpoAffdwx1HUwKSCwtbvTDWpFleY6yA9q_YQOegJGh09hOkRZgxnnU8Ojj_28Bs_Bu3AUznWQ2PjQOJsEGvuUIQc0/s1600-h/Tom+Glavine+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVd6zH2M0YAxKFmDbcaVOLpGEH1cnaIFLDFxwjKCUEd20EWLb7mfpoAffdwx1HUwKSCwtbvTDWpFleY6yA9q_YQOegJGh09hOkRZgxnnU8Ojj_28Bs_Bu3AUznWQ2PjQOJsEGvuUIQc0/s320/Tom+Glavine+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157428404827555154" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXAVWLFOse_8dBxr7Vqi5uIlSqaogq_fp600L_Dfx24odN2K54MqYyLbKfIZzzSS3_OFYdT_4OJ0bSkU1k1rn8pOv3dkWLWHwsT0qEmfG3p7YzrmwhgNK2hcsFGQ8kz6m_VKJzF-XpAc/s1600-h/Hanley+Ramirez+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUXAVWLFOse_8dBxr7Vqi5uIlSqaogq_fp600L_Dfx24odN2K54MqYyLbKfIZzzSS3_OFYdT_4OJ0bSkU1k1rn8pOv3dkWLWHwsT0qEmfG3p7YzrmwhgNK2hcsFGQ8kz6m_VKJzF-XpAc/s320/Hanley+Ramirez+-+2007+UD+Masterpieces+-+Captured+on+Canvas+-+Jersey.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157427640323376434" border="0" /></a>Yeah, this was a step up. Two black framed cards numbered #/100 Victor Martinez, Justin Morneau, and ten green framed cards (Ruth, Michael Jordan, Clinton, Koufax).<br /><br />Overall this product is just awesome. The sticker price of $100 was still a bit high for me, seeing what possible pulls there were. However, there is no denying the overall quality of the product. Those chase cards keep the sticker price up around the century mark, rather then the $65 that seemed more appropriate to me based on the auto and gamer possibilities. The rookie class overall is solid. The veterans and legendary players are well chosen as well for such a small set. The omission of Kirby Puckett's game six heroics is unforgivable, although they give me something to look forward to for next year. PLEASE Upper Deck bring this product back. Spend a little more and get some legend autos and relics, and expand the base set.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">I know I am not the first to say how much I enjoyed this set, but I am sure I will also not be the last. These scans really don't do justice to how nice these cards actually look. As always many of these cards are tradeable, just ask.</div>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-11484519100621440912008-01-17T10:42:00.000-08:002008-02-10T16:47:29.486-08:00I need your help! This is my first trade want list. If anybody out there is interested I would love to talk more about this. As a reference I can say that I completed a flawless trade with Chris Harris of Stale Gum, and am a fast and extremely secure shipper. What I need help with is completing my 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter Mini set. I do not care which type of mini they are. Regular backs, A&G Backs, Black Backs, whatever... I will take them. That doesn't mean I won't give you full value for your rare ones though. I will go High Book for High Book out of the most recent Beckett (crazy sp multipliers and everything). So if you have any of the numbers I need, I will be glad to work out a trade. All the cards I have posted on this site I own, and I have loads and loads more to trade, just let me know what you are into or what you need.<br /><br />Thanks.<br /><br />2007 Topps A&G Minis:<br />2, 5, 22, 26, 32, 39, 41, 43, 46, 48, 49, 54, 57, 62, 63, 64, 67, 68, 69, 77, 83, 88, 90, 91, 96, 99, 103, 104, 106, 107, 109, 110, 115, 118, 128, 127, 167, 168, 170, 176, 179, 185, 188, 189, 191, 202, 213, 219, 222, 224, 232, 239, 242, 244, 248, 250, 256, 267, 268, 277, 278, 279, 282, 284, 288, 294, 299, 302, 303, 305, 306, 309, 315, 316, 317, 320, 323, 332, 336, 338, 340, 341, 342, 343, 345<br /><br />I know it seems like that is just about all of them but I am about 70% there.Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-80466853006453204092008-01-16T13:00:00.000-08:002008-01-16T13:36:05.124-08:00The REBIRTH of the HOBBY!!!There are recent posts going around about the current state of the hobby. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Badwax</span>.net and White <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Sox</span> Cards have both posted excellent commentaries about the goings on in their local areas. There are <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">resounding</span> similarities amongst all the stories especially when it comes to the local card shop. There is a pining for the loss of the lovable store owner, and the fellow collectors to share your great pulls, or awful luck, with. Well, my brothers, I bring you tidings of great joy!! We are at the forefront of the Great Rebirth!!!<br /><br />The world is changing. Communities are changing. With a change of perspective we can see that all is not lost, but born again. We are no longer collectors with no one to collect with. We are no longer shoppers without a store to shop in. WE are the new community! We are the voice of the hobby. No longer are we <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">separated</span> by geography, collecting habits, time zones, team loyalties, we are joined together by the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Internet</span>. We have a group to share with. People telling stories, and floating ideas. We have great minds like Stale Gum, Poets like the Baseball Toaster: Cardboard Gods, trailblazers like The Baseball Card Blog. We have the ear of the largest retail shop in the country in Dave & Adams Card World who link customers to our blogs. We are even recognized by the gold standard of the industry, Beckett, who helps to set the market for our precious cardboard. Not only that but we are all the owners of our own card shops through E-Bay where we can be connected with other collectors the world over. Since discovering this community I have sold off excellent cards in order to purchase even more excellent cards in my own mind. I have made a trade of cards of my favorite player's pants for random cards to complete a set. I have found new friends to share ideas and thoughts with. Folks if this isn't the best card shop you have ever been in, then I need the address of your favorite shop.<br /><br />Sure things have changed, but when did you ever have a way for your ideas to be seen by thousands of people? When did you have access to that card you really wanted that was pulled by the collector 2000 miles away? When did you have the chance to select exactly the product you wanted and have it shipped right to your door? I am not trying to sell you anything here folks, I am just trying to renew your faith in the hobby. The hobby as we knew it is dead, long live the new hobby. Don't <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">despair</span> about the past, rejoice in the future. Want to tell someone about your great pull? Start a blog, or post it on mine, I would love to hear about it. Need to get something off your chest? Ramble like I am doing, or send it to one of us in an e-mail, I bet we would be glad to post it up for you. All I am saying is you are not alone. We all had 10 hobby shops we could ride our bikes to where, hopefully, some of our friends would be around to shoot the sh*t with. Well now your friends are all around, and we are waiting to hear your collecting stories.<br /><br />Fear Not, I bring you tidings of great joy!Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-22251566206294771592008-01-16T11:42:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:51.896-08:00Watch Ken Burns Baseball!!!<div>You need to see Ken Burns <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">documentary</span> on Baseball. I know many of you may have done this years ago. I didn't realize how long I had let pass until I finally got around to seeing it. Now, with <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Netflix</span> and Blockbuster Total Access so <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">prevalent</span>, there is really no excuse anymore. I had never actually seen it in a video store for rent before, but once I looked it up on-line on Blockbuster there it was. It is <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">absolutely</span> tremendous, and will increase most people's baseball knowledge tenfold. My entire life I have known who <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Honus</span> Wagner was, but had I ever seen him play? Did I know he was so bowlegged it looked like he could barely walk? Did I know an old <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Honus</span> Wagner showed up a young Ty Cobb by out playing him in a World Series? Nope. Do your self a favor, watch it, or watch it again.<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156164486146655506" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw1kBKbNp9tFzzPdYGZ2u8bfi4MOQ7CGlt67PCWLnBQyxgjqx-XweMCK6aGE61XpDmsr1rgOregGiUOS5UI7-y9zmDoxnShZsMjcoaK9acahoMwkWEUPzoeRUzeyVW1fac0AoV0ZqIGEs/s320/Honas+Wagner+-+2007+UD+SP+Legendary+Cuts+Baseball+-+Legendar.JPG" border="0" /></div>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-64665297230265457172008-01-16T09:48:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:52.565-08:00Another $.99 Find<div>I don't know how you guys feel about e-bay. I have liked it, and I have hated it. I have bought and sold, been disappointed and pleasantly surprised. I've gotten cards in conditions I would have never sold, and I have gotten <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">surprisingly</span> gradable cards I am surprised people have sold. All in all, you never really know what you are going to get. Sometimes I feel things are just simply overpriced on there, and then moments later I will think that e-bay is killing card values and ruining the hobby. Don't get me wrong, I am not in this just for the money. I don't need a book to tell me what cards are valuable so I can like just them. However, with the prices that we are paying for these products there needs to be some tangible value in them to justify the cost. If packs were transparent, and we could select what we wanted to purchase at a set price, then we could say that cards simply have the value placed on them by their owners. In e-bay we have basically that. However, most people still enjoy the mystery of opening the pack. The chance there might be something special inside. The <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">excitement</span> of the unknown. Packs are our slot machines, and even slot machines are regulated to ensure there is some value coming out of them.<br /><br />So that brings me to my 99 cent find on e-bay. To me this card holds much more value, but there is a balance there. The balance is what amount am I willing to part with to have it, versus what <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">inherent</span> value I place on the card. I have no problem saying that I would probably part <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjITr5YxZhH_U9J62bXRq-akEXU7q7BL-e9JhEaWEusDaoC3yyh6pFMoKd4sazu9U0lxL3wIFcEllAq3J9DgosK3YlrFi0pErKUtjL2NWhP7afvcPw4SnGfeyfaspWawePXIEsVnhhcQ8A/s1600-h/Maybin+Jersey.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156138308320986354" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjITr5YxZhH_U9J62bXRq-akEXU7q7BL-e9JhEaWEusDaoC3yyh6pFMoKd4sazu9U0lxL3wIFcEllAq3J9DgosK3YlrFi0pErKUtjL2NWhP7afvcPw4SnGfeyfaspWawePXIEsVnhhcQ8A/s320/Maybin+Jersey.jpg" border="0" /></a>with no more then $5 for the card. Yet once in my collection it obtains a sentimental value of no less then $30. Why you ask? For one, I consider myself a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Maybin</span></span> fan. Second, I enjoy jersey cards. To me they add a personal touch that simply a piece of cardboard with a photo cannot achieve. Third, I Love jersey cards in which the jersey in question can be identified. Now there are lots of ways the companies get around this. Rather then the All-Star Jersey, its the event worn all-star jersey...etc. So in this case I don't know for sure that this jersey card is really the one worn in the photo, but when they are the same color, and they claim to be, I like to take the optimists approach and believe. I believe that this is the next logical step in g/u <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">apparel</span>. It will simply not be enough anymore to say something is game worn. We are going to need <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">pieces</span> of those jerseys when that shut-out, three HR, game 7's, actually <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">occurred</span>. For rookies, the debut game worn jerseys are going to be huge. Plus it can give people some real good reasons to go after second year stuff of the hot rookies, which is always good for the companies and the hobby.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156140339840517378" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDjAA0lp4GO-yCNYZaeYYPWHeAaCIfxR1VzF5iEEj9XbttJwfwYZbdRNcMlicicua-ZWw2zK_2UPQVYV0I7MlY1gd5_u-5nWSm7qMWyyaurPxbeaZMZ8DVEPiSpBqTkyAetPppU0F3ISs/s320/Dwayne+Bowe+-+2007+Topps+DPP+-+Senior+Standouts+-+Senior+Bow.JPG" border="0" /></div><br /><p align="center"><em>Another example of one of my identifiable game worn cards</em></p>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497861722167737947.post-35023602516629993942008-01-15T12:34:00.000-08:002008-12-09T10:01:52.789-08:00The Great Fan-Fest Card Give-Away!!!<div><br /><div>Well, although I have yet to receive a comment on my blog, my site tracker tells me people are reading it, or at least looking at it. It seems nowadays with the internet there is no card that you really can't find a picture of if you really want to see it. However, for those who might have missed it, I thought I would put up THE card which got me back in the hobby and writing this blog.</div><br /><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155805847787504834" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh90QGeNG_xVuAie3DH7pGmwTW6fNLvN5WTw95BhchDhdYYuVzcsu7Szvfuo9yDDLifG-tL_ch4l-xJC9arzq_Fp5qLoOkeAFOK9R4QmzX3fhE2zPwU-VTbohRKJmgDieiwue_w_X5IJ_k/s320/Tim+Lincecum+-+2007+Topps+Baseball+All-Star+Game+Fan-Fest+-+.JPG" border="0" /></div></div><br /><br /><p>It's a beauty aint it? I really do love the design of these All Star Game cards in this years topps. Would have been nice if it was the base design for this years release wouldn't it?</p><br /><p>Well.... in a shameless self promotion I have decided to offer those readers, who would be kind enough to leave a comment, a chance at an Official 2007 MLB All Star Game Fan Fest card at absolutly no cost to them!! All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog between today, and the 15th of February, and I will put all the names of those who commented in a hat and randomly draw a winner to receive the card. I will then e-mail the winner for their mailing address (U.S. only please). <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEietsfesUcJiCDQbEpPRiq7TJhBktyVtPbbwdAYo4f7TqgjdQH9YxNi-Z2750yisRpE35C5vR0tPefKeoC9ko45NxyYtd0gh9qJPPdjSQAVo018Am5f49H5fC3R5Q5Cr8YltyCBQ6bou8Q/s1600-h/Daisuke+Matsuzaka+-+2007+UD+Baseball+All-Star+Game+Fan-Fest+.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155808347458471138" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEietsfesUcJiCDQbEpPRiq7TJhBktyVtPbbwdAYo4f7TqgjdQH9YxNi-Z2750yisRpE35C5vR0tPefKeoC9ko45NxyYtd0gh9qJPPdjSQAVo018Am5f49H5fC3R5Q5Cr8YltyCBQ6bou8Q/s320/Daisuke+Matsuzaka+-+2007+UD+Baseball+All-Star+Game+Fan-Fest+.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I can not currently say which card I will select, but I can say that it will come from this Upper Deck All Star Set, it will be a rookie, and the more comments I receive the better player it will be. I will need a minimum of 10 different people to comment to make it worth it, so, if you would like a cool card you could only get at the All Star Game, and you don't mind taking a second to comment, then Good Luck you just might win!!</p>Fred Sarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07444956641816852141noreply@blogger.com17
